“The power of the people is always greater than the people in power. We must use our voice to demand a government that works for and by the people.” Senator Cory Booker

UPCOMING MONTEREY COUNTY EVENTS

Friday - 5/23/25 - Support Needed

We need your help! Monterey has the opportunity to create a rainbow crosswalk – something beautiful and meaningful for our LGBTQ+ community, allies, and visitors. But right now, it’s not a done deal.

A special city hearing is happening tomorrow (Friday, May 23) from 2–5 PM, and we need supporters to show up and make their voices heard. Unfortunately, opposition is loud – we’re seeing 4x more pushback than support.

If you can’t attend in person, please submit a letter of support by noon tomorrow. We’ve included a message template below to make it easy, and just copy, paste, and send.

And please share this with friends, family, coworkers – anyone who believes in inclusion and visibility.

Let’s show the City of Monterey that love and pride are louder than hate. Emailed comments can go to cityclerk@monterey.gov.

In solidarity,

Monterey Peninsula Pride

The Monterey City Council will be considering whether or not to support the painting of a Rainbow Crosswalk in Monterey, tomorrow, Friday, May 22, 2025, at 2pm during the afternoon session of the City Council meeting. We strongly encourage you to either attend the meeting in person or virtually or send an email urging the City Council to:  “Adopt a Resolution Authorizing and Approving One or More Locations for Rainbow Crosswalks.”

As a community we should unite and stand with our LGBTQ+ community as they are increasingly being attacked by the current administration. Republicans have organized a coordinated attack against this project so it is vital that we support Mayor Tyller Williamson and the rest of the City Council in this effort to be inclusive and respectful. This initiative speaks directly to the effort to promote visibility, safety, and community for LGBTQ+ individuals in Monterey.
